Georgia’s Paddock Riesling

Our riesling is part of the original vineyard of Georgia’s Paddock planted in 1975. A wine that can be enjoyed now with its fresh textural limes and lemon or with age as it develops honey suckle characters.

Last year I commended the 2003 vintage as the best Jasper Hill Riesling ever, but this one is even better, with greater intensity. Tropical/ citrus/ green apple and floral aromas with an ultra-dry, crisp natural acid palate. Simply the best since out first in ’84. For those who like their Riesling dry, this is it. Obviously youthful, its colour exhibits a light green tinge with a floral/lime aromaticity that believes its crisp acid, dry palate. A great match now with a delicate dish (how about plain boiled yabbies) this wine like previous releases, will flesh out in time. Cellar potential 3-5 years.

One hundred percent estate grown Riesling. Again, a bone dry, steely acid style, with a touch more varietal nose and colour than previous Georgia’s Paddock Riesling releases. Our Bank Manager makers no apologise for its age and neither do we! Great now with delicately flavoured food or cellar for a couple of years if you are that way inclined.

The grey, solemn label says it all. A small parcel of high quality unirrigated Central Victorian Riesling grapes was offered by the Roberts family of Bridgewater-On-Loddon to partially offset the burnt crop. The resulting wine is outstanding – very flowery, perfumed aromatic nose; bone dry, young, flinty acid firmness. Only 140 cases produced.

Our first white wine, which Sarah Gough (Melb , Age, 11 Sep 84) described as a “delightful, steely, dry, austere yet intensely spicy and fresh Riesling.” Now with a few more months of bottle age, this wine is rounding out nicely. Drink now or cellar for several years if you like bottle complexed whites.

Medium brassy colour. Oxidised wine. Still showing attractive mineral acidity and chalky structure but the fruit has dropped out completely. 11.5% Alc 80 points – past.
