Emily’s Paddock Shiraz/Cabernet Franc
Emily’s Paddock with it’s easterly facing slope is our smallest vineyard of 2.7 hectares. Low yields create intense flavours while the wine is known for its firm tannin profile. Shiraz and Cabernet Franc co-fermented with natural yeasts, kept on skins for 5-6 weeks and given a gentle press, matured for 12 months in French oak.

A vibrant red/blue colour hints at what is to come! The usual perfumed aromas are followed by an extremely full and complex palate of blackberry, red currant and lightly minted cola. Impeccable tannins and natural acidity in abundance, finishing with the hallmark great length. Possibly a little more approachable as a young wine than recent vintages, but just as cellarable. Very happy with this one. Alcohol 15.5% -

Picked on Ash Wednesday, but the wine does not exhibit fume flavours! Instead, we have again a firmer, tannic style: good acid backbone (pH 3.40) subtle new French oak nuances, immense fruit flavours – more blackberry than cassis this year, from the drought affected, quicker ripening fruit.
