Again, the descriptors of ripe red berries and complex spices are applicable. More tannic than the last few vintages but not overtly so. Viscous crimson in the glass. I rate this vintage as one of the best, with finer qualities than the excellent 1983 drought wine. 14.5% alcohol.

Medium deep colour. Intense dark/ plum/ choco-berry aromas with some graphite/ cedar notes. Sweet concentrated wine with dark plum/ chocolaty flavours, dense al dente tannins, underlying malt notes. Finishes chocolaty and long with some black peppy notes. 2010-2025. 95 points.

Medium deep colour. Fresh and complex wine with lovely truffle, paneforte, redcurrant aromas and flavours, fine sweet plentiful tannins and mocha nuances. Finishes chocolaty and long. Has a lovely lasting tannin swagger and vinosity. Now – 2030 – 95 points

Medium deep colour. Salted liquorice, waxy, polish, dark cherry aromas with earthy nuances. Complex and supple with roasted coffee. Waxy, earthy flavours, some remnants of dark cherry fruits, fine supple lacy tannins and underlying savoury. Cedar notes. Finishes firm and tight with mineral length. Still drinking fine but builds up leafy firm. 14.5% Alc 92 points – Now – 2035
