Emily’s Paddock Shiraz / Cabernet Franc – 1988

Time of release

This is the most approachable “Emilys” to date. Although it is a big wine as Emilys usually is, the fruit is showing through while the grape and French oak derived tannins are a little softer than previously. Well balanced with long cellaring potential.

Tasting notes by Andrew Caillard, MW – August 2007

Dark colour. Liquorice/ herb garden/ red cherry/ fresh mint aromas. Fresh beautiful wine with liquorice/ dark chocolate/ dark cherry flavours, dense dry slinky/ chocolaty tannins and underlying savoury oak. Finishes minerally and long with plenty of flavour length. 93 points.

Tasting notes by Andrew Caillard, MW – 17th August 2012

Medium deep colour. Intense praline, iodine, salted liquorice aromas and flavours with sweet fruit, dark chocolate flavours and some leafy notes. Tannins are muscular, gritty and long, but underlying power and fruit sweetness gives balance and length. Now – 2025 – 92 points
